Five Friday Happy Bringers — 5/30/14

Another beautiful Spring Friday here in Savannah!  And there’s just so very much to be thankful for.  Here’s what’s bringing me happiness:

1.  On Tuesday, my ESL 680 (Research, Reading and Writing) grad students and I hosting a little informal Open House to showcase their Visual Component projects.  We have been working on research papers based on some specific aspect of their master’s program, and a part of their work included “creating” someTHING to illustrate their research.  Examples of their research topics include: “Gothic Elements in Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride,” “Contemporary Sustainable Building Design,” “Interface Design in Modern Media Production,” and “The Influence of 1980’s Chinese Daily Wear on Western Fashion.”  So much fun!  I keep learning SO MUCH from these incredible SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) international students.

Some pics from our Open House:

What a creative, intelligent group of students!

2.  And along the same line, last night was our final class for SCAD’s spring quarter.  So, of course we had to take a few more photos, including a Class Pic!

3.  The Promise of Summer.

4.  This great (I think) Quote from the folks at Abraham-Hicks publications.

drumbeat1

“Do I have a responsibility to make the whole world beat to my drum?  No, nor could you.  You beat your own drum, and the universe will respond to the drum that you are beating.  There as many different worlds being lived by as many different perceivers of the world as there are perceivers of the world.”

5.  Black kale salad with candied zucchini (who knew?!) and spiced walnuts.

Have a glorious last weekend of May 2014!  And look for the good!  (You’ll find it.)

1.  I’m getting on a plane in a couple of hours for Manhattan and Broadway.

(I’m going to visit–not to star in a Broadway production.)

(But I may audition.)

2.  Taking my international students on a neat field trip to an art/jazz event at the SCAD Museum of Art.

I wish they gave you a real peach when you voted.  (Or at least a peach-scented sticker.)

(Should I color my hair?  I’m setting up a little polling booth outside my place and asking voters to decide.)

A Colorful Saturday

Sat1

Yesterday’s Saturday ended up being such a Colorfully Beautiful day from Dawn till Dusk!  (Okay, maybe I wasn’t up at dawn, but that just sounds so poetic to me.)  It all started out (post-dawn) when I sleepily turned the corner from my East Broad Street apartment to stroll down Savannah’s main street, Broughton Street, to forage for breakfast.  Well, lo and behold, parts of Broughton and nearby streets looked like, well, like this:

What?  Huh?  At first I thought maybe it was just me (as if often the case).  After all, I was not 100% awake but was 100% hungry.

But then I began to see folks who looked like, well, like this:

Is that normal?  So, being a college professor and all,  I thought that maybe something was up and needed to explore further.

Happy!  I’m all about some happy!  That’s right up my alley.

I LOVE participating in road races when you don’t have to run.  It’s so refreshing!  (And non-perspiratory.)

(I’m not really sure what the above is.  Somebody pointed to a boxy-looking thingy, so I stuck my head inside.  That has gotten me in so very much trouble over the years.)

Then, exhausted, I ate breakfast at Goosefeathers (go there when you’re in Savannah, near Ellis Square).  And headed to the colorful Forsyth Farmers Market.
