Oh gosh, it has been HOT in the summery, slowed-down version of Savannah GA this week. Just look at the temp in Slovannah on Wednesday:
113 real feel?! Seriously?
Part of my issue with this sizzling heat is that I feel beyond HUGE (kinda like Harry Potter’s big buddy Hagrid or a less-intelligent King Kong) bumbling along outside. I guess it’s all mental, but the humidity makes me so much more lethargic and simple-minded than I already am. Sometimes, midday, I find myself just standing perfectly still on the Broughton sidewalk downtown (sorta like those street performers you come upon every now and then who shock you when they move because you thought they were gold-painted statues). Seeing only about twenty inches in front of me, I’m positive that taking another step forward is simply not a remote possibility. And what REALLY gets on my nerves are those business men in suits and ties and women in long dresses with jackets and wraps sashaying along, perfectly oblivious to the heat, looking as if they are working the runways at Bryant Park. (At least I think that’s what they look like–I have to keep wiping the sweat off my face.)
So when 1) I received an invitation to attend the grand opening of The Brice (the incredibly hip new Kimpton Hotels property around the corner from my apartment) and 2) I discovered the event started at scorching 5:30 pm ON THE TOP, OPEN FLOOR OF THE HOTEL”S GARAGE, several thoughts came (slowly) to my mind:
A. Has anybody on the planning committee been outside in, say, the last couple of weeks?
B. The rooftop?!
C. Is it clothing optional?
So what a shock I received upon climbing the steps and venturing into a … horse show! Really. They had laid down sod way up there and hired a horse and horse dancers (don’t start–they have horse whisperers, don’t they?) and DJ’s. Invited the mayor. When I got my cold cucumber drink and wiped eighteen cocktail napkins on my face, eye glasses, ears, neck, arms, the pavement near my feet and a couple of people around me, I was mesmerized.
The light was so bright up there so close to the sun, but here are a few pics.
Here I am with Mayor Edna Jackson.
And here are the exact words I’m saying to her in the picture below: “When did you stop being mayor and become a fashion model?!” (I thought she looked terrific with her new hairstyle and look.)
And here’s event specialist Scott West and his cool hat (I think he’s eavesdropping):
Beautiful buddy Ruthie White, GM of Pacci (wonderful hotel restaurant):
After we all helped get the horse off the roof (kidding), we ventured inside The Brice for a scavenger hunt and up-close look at the facilities.
Here I am begging a hostess to let me get in the pool.
They were taking Polaroid pics!
And what interesting special guests!
Okay that was Happy Bringer #1. Here are the others:
2. Grand-dog Spyro graduating from PetSmart Training Class.
3. Always finding something for which to be grateful.
4. Swimming above it.
5. As much as I rant about them, Savannah summers.
And the cool spell right now:
(RealFeel only 98.)
Go out and trot this weekend!
