Heat! Happy? Help!

hot1

Okay, okay, so I write a happiness blog.  But just look at today here in Slo-vannah:

I desire to be happy, I intend it, but for the life of me, I’m sweating up a storm and trying to see the joy in 102 degrees.

Help!

Give me a few hot, happy reasons.

Pope Happiness

I found this joyful article on The Good News Network website this morning:  “The Pope’s Top 10 Happiness Tips.”  And although I’m not Catholic, I love his suggestions.

The Pope LOOKS happy!

Thank you, Pope Francis.

P.S.  I like having a few alternative/positive news sites.  Why?  Because it’s so easy to become accustomed to being continually inundated with the bad news which fills most sites these days (TV news, online, print, etc.).  A while back I did a post about this issue.  Read it here:  News? Whose?

Happy Halloween!

So, I was walking through Kroger this evening.  And I got all confused/flabbergasted because, well, I turned a corner and saw this:

The confusion came about because my August 17th weather app told me this:

A real feel of 98 degrees and Halloween cavorting just do not play well together (to me).  But then again, I’m well past my 50th bday, so maybe I’m out of touch with reality.

So Happy (excuse me for a second while I wipe the sweat off my brow) Halloween!!

Sunday Morning Quote (8/17/14)

Last night I spun over to Savannah’s beautiful Lucas Theater to see/experience The Sound of Music on the big screen.  Oh my goodness, call me dorky and hokey, but the mid-sixties film remains one of my favorite of all time.  Why?  Well, the music, of course, but also the sheer joy and power of the concept of enthusiastic personality.

And one of the most dramatic moments in the movie (well, to me) occurs when the mother superior advises Maria to return to the Von Trapp family to discover who she is and what she wants.

Her advice is for us all:

“Climb every mountain.  Ford every stream.  Follow every rainbow till you find your dream.”

— from The Sound of Music

Let’s all get to climbing some mountains!

Climb every mountain,
Search high and low,
Follow every highway,
Every path you know.

Climb every mountain,
Ford every stream,
Follow every rainbow,
‘Till you find your dream.

A dream that will need
All the love you can give,
Every day of your life
For as long as you live.

Climb every mountain,
Ford every stream,
Follow every rainbow,
Till you find your dream

A dream that will need
All the love you can give,
Every day of your life,
For as long as you live.

Climb every mountain,
Ford every stream,
Follow every rainbow,
Till you find your dream.

Another spectacular version of the song:

I love these lazy, hazy crazy days of summer!  Here’s Nat King Cole singing about them.  Listen as you read the Happy Bringers:

“O Captain, My Captain” — Farewell, Mr. Williams

One of my all-time favorite Robin Williams movie scenes is the ending of Dead Poets’ Society, when nervous introvert Todd leads his peers in standing on their desks in a show of support for the exiting, beloved teacher Mr. Keating.

What an incredible voice Robin Williams possessed!

captain7

We will miss you, captain.  May you now be sailing in peaceful waters.

We stand up for your exiting.

May peace now be your portion.
