Say Yes!

Yes1

I submit for your consideration, Faithful Blog Followers, that the word “Yes” is perhaps the most powerful word in our vocabulary.  It’s sort of Youthful and Exciting and Sassy.

It makes me want to Yell and Express my True Self and Sing!

Say it out loud right now (if you can).

Doesn’t that feel good?  (Say “Yes.”)

As we are saying goodbye to 2013 and welcoming 2014, I encourage you to come up with a List of That Which You Desire to say “Yes!” to in this new year.

I love symbols and reminders.  One (somewhat weird) thing I do is look for sticks which look like the letter Y.  (Reminder to self: Therapist Talking Point #58.)  They become my “Yes!” sticks. I don’t keep them.  I just think, “That stick reminds me of the letter ‘y’ and the word ‘Yes!'”  And then start saying “Yes!” to whatever I want/desire/hope for at that moment.

Here are a couple of Yes Sticks:

And here’s a Short List of what I’m saying “YES!” to in this Brand New Year.

1.  Overwhelming Peace in my life.

2.  Healthy Eating.

3.  Being the Best Son two elderly parents could ever have.

4.  Becoming the very Personification of Encouragement.

5.  Joy.

6.  Uncontrollable Peals of Laughter.

7.  Grandfathering (Abu-ing) to beat sixty.

8.  Treating every person I meet as if she or he were the most important person on earth (lesson from my dad, who actually did this consistently).

What about you?  What are you saying “Yes!” to in 2014?

Here’s buddy and songwriter/performer Amy Steinberg and her cool song, “Yes.”

Friday night I went to a house concert featuring Amy Steinberg here in Savannah.  What fun and encouragement!  Here I am with Amy after the concert:

I want to be a famous singer/musician.  Maybe an Italian one.

“Exactly Where I Need to Be” with Amy Steinberg

Sunday night I ventured over to Savannah’s beautiful Ardsley Park neighborhood to attend the House Concert (doesn’t that sound hip?) featuring singer/songwriter Amy Steinberg.

What a joyfully encouraging evening!

I got the invite from good buddy/socialite/singer-in-her-own-right/kindred spirit Jamie Marie Smith:

The night started with a potluck before the concert.  I brought crescent rolls.  Apparently, fairly powerful rolls.

Here’s Amy and Jamie:

I LOVE the message in Amy”s music:  we’re all GREAT the way we are, we should ENJOY these moments of our lives and WE SHOULD LOVE (at least that was my take-away.)

I had a great perch in a corner with a rocking chair.  (Felt a bit like an overseeing, wise patriarch.)

My favorite of Amy’s repertoire, “Exactly,” inspires us to recognize the “perfect me” inside by embracing the truth that we REALLY are where we need to be, and that we can/should find true happiness NOW if we look for it, accept it, claim it as our birthright.

“I am exactly where I need to be
I need to be exactly where I am
I am surrendering so willingly
To be the perfect me inside this now.”

Take a listen:

Throughout the evening, Amy fed us a smorgasbord of inspiring, uplifting musical messages.

Just look at the titles of a few of her other song gems: “Yes,” “Beautiful in Me,” “Hope,” “I Am Enough,” “Shine,” and “Run, Don’t Walk.”  I sat there entranced, feeling as though the essence of my blog had been set to music.  And as the evening continued, I realized that Amy didn’t just sing about abundant joy–she personified it.

Check out Amy’s website.  You Tube her.  Find her on iTunes.  You will be glad you did!

You are a wonderful blessing, Amy Steinberg.  Keep singing!  Your voice needs to be heard.

P.S.  I may become a world famous singer myself.  When Amy wasn’t looking and most of the guests were eating cheese, I …
