We may be back in Slow-vannah after our week trek to New York, but I’m still NYC remembering.

One night we were hanging out at Hush, a tremendously cool gay bar in Hell’s Kitchen.

After wearing out our welcome, we headed to nearby Lucky’s for burgers.

For some reason (the hour at Hush?), Robert was particularly expressive as we awaited our food. Here are half a dozen HR looks.

Robert and … a weirdly delicious pose.

We were enjoying our specialty brunch donuts at hip restaurant Beetlecat in Atlanta.

I chose the Banana Pudding Donut (wouldn’t you?) and immediately went to work eating it up. Beetlecat is so hip that you order your donut before your entree.

Meanwhile HR, out of focus and in the background (I was enjoying my donut far too much to pay attention to his goings on) had his hands in an awkward position, at least for everyday donut eating.

Robert chose some kind of islandy pineapple-on-top thing.

I suppose he just wanted to show it off a bit.

But I’m not sure. I decided not to ask.

Here’s HR shopping for Fourth of July headgear while showcasing his gay Apple watch band, two necklaces and shiny wedding ring, standing in front of menswear at Target.

Why am I always just SO behind the scenes?

Robert and … mansplaining. Here’s HR in his gay Smirnoff t-shirt at breakfast, left hand either furtively hiding something he doesn’t want me to see or gesturing awkwardly, as he drones on and on about some trivial topic or other. If I remember correctly (and don’t hold me to it, my mind often wanders/wonders), I think he was painstakingly explaining to me how important it is to double check the forks and spoons after washing them (our dishwasher is ill right now), since I tend to just let a little drizzle of water touch them before tossing them in the dish drying rack …

“And the thing is, Neal, you MIGHT want to look more closely for little pieces of food or butter or soap bubbles or whatever on the forks and spoons because, YOU KNOW, that’s probably not all that good for us … … … ….”

Robert and … a silly/terrifying blue-haired wooden Easter chick thing, eerily close to some Spanish moss on a tree trunk, showcasing his gay watch band, as well as both his little squirrel necklace (remember HR’s nickname is Squirrel) and his bear necklace (don’t get me started on that). Oh, and of course, a children’s playground in the background.

Robert and … a gay ship arriving from the Atlantic into Savannah a couple of blocks from our apartment.

We love, even in the middle of the night, hearing the ship horns loudly heralding their entry into the Savannah port.

Robert and … his beautiful Fresh Herbs and Asparagus Quiche.

Before the oven.

The Leading Role Herbs: Dill, Cilantro, Curly Parsley and Chives.

And after the oven.

With our pretty, shiny pie server (Is that what you call it?), which I placed photogenically, approximately next to the quiche.

But, No!, Robert would have none of that. He pulled out a Murder Weapon to cut the delicate dish!

Always looking for the bright side, even when EMS might need to be called, I noticed HR’s watch band, mimosa and quiche matched prettily.

Oh my goodness! The quiche was beyond delicious!

Robert with an awkward smile on his face, just below neighbor Barbara perched atop a blue ladder, while cuddling her teetering poodle at Robert’s head.

A little explanation. This … “event” occurred back in early December 2018 as our Washington Square neighborhood was doing our yearly decorating of the square with fresh greenery and red bows. Barbara and Robert were in charge of putting bows at the top of street lamps.
