Five Friday Happy Bringers 6/30/23

My weekly gratitude journal, of sorts.

1. Radishes.

They are just ravishing.

2. Billboards sprouting up around Savannah featuring grandson Daniel as Raoul in the Savannah Theatre’s upcoming production of Phantom of the Opera.

The production opens July 7.

3. This week walking one of the trails (by myself, quite unusual, R and I are usually together 24/7 ) at the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge near us.

4. My Feet

Benny and my (old man) feet

5. Air conditioning.

AIR CONDITIONING!

May you have a cool weekend ahead.

Five Friday Happy Bringers 6/23/23

My weekly gratitude journal, of sorts.

1. Getting all cultured, attending the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s 2023 Season Finale with incredible first-year-in-Atlanta conductor Nathalie Stutzmann.

“Bolero” was stunningly, movingly beautiful.

2. Fresh farm peaches from Ellijay, GA. Sweet and juicy (sorta like “Bolero”)!

3. Being thankful for my eyesight.

4. Seeing the world premiere of circus-based musical “Water for Elephants” at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta. I loved the novel and was uber excited to hear that it was coming out as a play.

5. Celebrating Robert’s birthday (the young upstart) at Truva, a terrific little Turkish restaurant in the hip Virginia Highland neighborhood near Midtown Atlanta.

Yum!

We chose the Mixed Kebabs for two: Chargrilled Adana | Chicken Kebab | Beef Kebab | Shaved Doner | Turkish Style Rice | Grilled Tomatoes.

May you have a delicious weekend ahead!

Five Friday Happy Bringers 6/16/23

My weekly gratitude journal, of sorts.

1. Visiting this teeny farm market at Nu Sunrise Farms in Griffin, GA.

All sales were based on the honor system! Here is Robert paying for our vine ripened tomatoes and goat’s milk with lavender body lotion.

2. Having enough money to buy tomatoes and goat’s milk lotion.

3. Watching the Atlanta Braves beat the Colorado Rockies 8-3 last night at Truist Firld.

HR gets a tad excited at the big plays.

4. My homemade chicken and dumplings.

5. Art submerged in aquariums! A new exhibition at the University of Georgia Aquarium over on Skidaway Island near us.

May your weekend ahead be submerged in joy and discovery.

Thanksgiving in May

For some reason, we are having a bit of a “cold spell” here in Savannah, which is quite unusual for this late in May.

TIB (Truth in Blogging): Frigid for us is anything under 60 degrees. Right now …

It has also been raining all day.

Sidebar: I’ve kept a gratitude journal for eons now. This morning’s additions …

So, when trying to decide what to have for supper, it hit me …

GRATITUDE-INSPIRED THANKSGIVING SIDES!

Thus, using whatever ingredients I had on hand, I decided on Green Bean Casserole and Sweet Potato Casserole. Two classics, right?

I got to work.

Oh my goodness. The deliciousness of fall in spring.

A Joyful May of Thanksgiving to You!

Five Friday Happy Bringers 5/19/23

My weekly gratitude journal, of sorts.

1. This beautiful head of cabbage we got a nearby farm store, Pittman’s Country Market, over in Lyon, Ga.

We were fortunate enough to see the farmers hauling in the freshly picked cabbages.

2. Having dinner with grandson Daniel—far right—and his three best buddies (all actors like him).

Nearly impossible to keep up with their energy, but Robert and I had a blast!

3. Our refrigerator. It keeps things cold! And it even has a section that freezes! Do you have one? What an incredible blessing that I so often take for granted.

4. Robert’s fried (okay, okay, I know, fried) okra (okay, okay, I know, okra) the other evening.

Yum!

5. And corn on the cob.

I hope you have a delicious weekend ahead.

Cutesy Tuesday: “The Power of Every Individual”

Today I am starting a new, occasional blog post category: “Cutesy Tuesday,” highlighting what I consider to be cute.

So yesterday, Robert and I went to our favorite produce stand near us here in Savannah, Davis Produce, out near the Atlantic Ocean, and bought a big bunch of stuff.

But mainly pink-eyed crowder peas and okra. Okra is my favorite vegetable in the history of vegetables; okra is HR’s least favorite vegetable in the history of vegetables. Our marriage is vegetatively tenuous.

But looky there in the lower right-hand corner above (well, and below). When I emptied our bag of goodies, I saw him.

A lone peanut.

Somewhat robust, and holding his own against the okra.

I asked him why he came as the lone peanut, crowded out by the crowder peas and okra.

He responded,

Let us move forward as powerful individuals.
