Grandson Daniel, who you may remember just finished a run as Joseph in “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” here in Savannah, is at a three-week drama camp.
D is in the green t-shirt
I have been sending him silly cards of encouragement. Here is my latest. In order to understand it, you must know that the family dog is named Coastal. (We live in Savannah, next to the Atlantic Ocean, and my daughter’s medical company is called Coastal Care Partners.)
1. HR’s Julia Child-inspired French Hamburger with Mushroom Sauce.
Beyond delicious!
2. Attending last Sunday’s Atlanta Symphony Orchestra to see and hear Conductor/Music Director Robert Spano’s final performance (after two decades). A rousing Mahler’s Symphony #3!
1. HR coming down some stairs at the Gibbes Museum of Art in Charleston.
2. Always having enough food to eat.
3. Grandson Daniel on closing night of a three-week run as Joseph in “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” here in Savannah. Robert and I gave him a poster listing all the colors in his coat (from lyrics in one of the songs)
4. Excitement about the wonderful possibility of very soon here in Georgia having the nation’s first black female governor. But more important than that incredible first, having the indisputable best candidate win back Georgia for the good of our state.
[A not-so-happy sidenote: Yesterday someone keyed the side of our car near the Abrams’ decal. The battle for Georgia’s soul is not pretty.]
1. Attending friends Pat and Mary Prokop’s annual Memorial Day Garden Party, featuring Pat’s incredible backyard garden. Pat was the long-term but now retired chief meteorologist for WTOC here in Savannah.
Here’s HR giving me a lengthy lecture, something about heat resistant blossoms (it was too hot to pay much attention), before I finally had all I could take of him and joined Mary on the porch for mimosas.
2. Robert’s amazing and tenderly delicious Steak Pizzaiola.
3. The joy, and yes sometimes sorrow, of being able to FEEL. Emotionally, physically, politically, etc.
4. Driving around Savannah and seeing grandson Daniel plastered on electronic billboards advertising the musical, “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.” D is Joseph in the play, which closes this weekend after a three-week run.
5. I’ve been going through some pretty intensive allergy testing this week to try to get to the root of some health issues I’ve been having. WARNING: Not pretty pics like the garden party ones above. Scroll through quickly!
Have you ever had to go through this?!
WHY on earth am I including such a thing as a Happy Bringer? Simple: my back is now TAPE FREE!
Here’s another garden party photo, to get your mind off allergy testing.
Strolling through Warren Square (one of Savannah’s 22 beautiful squares) this evening, Robert and I came upon this Cool Cat sprawled in the sun on the evening grass.

1. An incredible lunch: Chicken pot pie at Pie Society, Ellis Square, Historic District Savannah. With HR and ex-wife Donna.
See the little chicks on the crust?
2. A washing machine. And a dryer! Do you have that incredible pair? If so, I invite you to pause, take a moment and thank God (or whoever/whatever) for such a Glorious Blessing. What would your life be like without them?
Ours is small, stacked, not top of the line, but what a blessing!
3. My husband HR …
… who gets on my LAST nerve sometimes, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
