Goodbye, Sweet Benny

This morning Robert and I had to “put down” our beloved Benny. He has been “going downhill“ (how did we come up with all these euphemisms relating to death?) for quite a while now. This last week Benny, quite the senior citizen at 17 1/2, became noticeably lethargic, sleeping basically all the time, having difficulty breathing, and showing no interest in his food or his water, alerting us, per our vet’s advice, that the time had come. (Benny had progressive throat cancer.)

Robert and I will celebrate 10 years of marriage in December, but Benny has been with R much longer and is his True First.

Benny last night

So this morning HR loaded Benny in his carrier for one last ride.

How difficult it is to say Goodbye.

Goodbye …

“Walk”

HR and I are house- and dog-sitting for daughter Amy for a few days.

Here’s Coastal, ready for her evening walk.

And here’s Coastal every few minutes, ready for a belly rub.

A lovely Wednesday evening on Skidaway Island near Savannah.

Five Friday Happy Bringers 2/6/26

My weekly gratitude journal, of sorts.

1. Feeding the birds. In the midst of a bit of snow.

2. Benny on the old cast iron farmhouse bed.

3. Believing that tomorrow, though not promised, will more than likely occur.

4. Ms. Mop and Mr. Broom (a couple, I think) on the side porch at the farmhouse.

(More about their story later.)

5. HR entering a Valentine-y Kroger.

May you have a Weekend of Wonder.

Five Friday Happy Bringers 1/2/26

My weekly gratitude journal, of sorts.

1. Kitty Benny in black and white on my lap the other morning.

2. Blessings of the New Year waiting to be revealed.

3. The wonderful ability to Breathe Deeply.

4. Robert and my New Year’s Eve/New York Strip cookout.

It was warm enough to eat outside.

5. Remembering this festively pedaling Santa that HR and I saw in Manhattan a few weeks ago.

May you make some Memories of Good this first weekend of the New Year.
