Five Friday Happy Bringers 5/31/24

My weekly gratitude journal, of sorts.

1. Attending The Annual Memorial Day Garden Party at friends Pat and Mary Prokops’s lovely Savannah home. Pat is retired now but was a longtime popular meteorologist on a local Savannah station.

Garden host Pat and HR

2. Driving up to Atlanta for a Braves game.

And getting famous ….

3. The blessing/luxury of having a car. Everybody doesn’t.

4. Fresh vegetables from our favorite Savannah produce stand.

5. Good advice for National Mental Health Awareness month.

May you have a Wonderfully Healthy Weekend ahead!

Monday Moaning or Monday Marveling? 5/20/24 “Hello Hy”

MARVELING!

The incredibly aromatic blossoms of Jasmine are beginning to say their goodbyes here in historic district Savannah.

I will miss them sorely, although their stalwart greenery will stay to keep guard.

Awakening me from my sadness and reminding me that all is not forlorn, along comes Hydrangea, seemingly popping up everywhere I walk, especially this cool Monday morning.

My Saturday Evening Post: 5/11/24 “Walking”

One of the joys of living in downtown historic district Savannah is that the walks NEVER get old. And are ongoingly (Is that a word?) beautiful.

The other day, Robert had a chiropractor appointment nearby, so I went with him, but then took the opportunity to walk around that particular little neighborhood.

Here’s a sampling of what I saw.

Jasmine is everywhere this spring!

My favorite house I came across:

And look at its side yard!

And this is in a very urban, tightly packed cityscape.

And here’s a little place, still with a bit of character.

Okay, HR’s finished. Gotta go.

Angeling

This morning we picked up breakfast sandwiches and coffee and headed over to Savannah’s beautiful Bonaventure Cemetery for a forenoon (Isn’t that a cool word?) picnic.

Walking afterwards, we came across her …

“What’s going on here?” I quietly asked.

(I had to repeat my question several times before she answered me.)

I had to lean in to hear her.

“Angeling is hard work.”

I simply nodded and motioned for Robert to soundlessly move along.

Five Friday Happy Bringers (a little late) 4/27/24

My weekly gratitude journal, of sorts.

I have been a bit lax with blog posts for a week or so. Dealing with a few issues.

But here are some Happy Bringers (a day late) :

1. This beautiful old, OLD live oak tree near us here in Historic District Savannah. It may be gnarled and off-balance a bit (hmmm, so am I), but it is magnificent in its glorious longevity.

2. HR, with his shiny pate, working on our sidewalk plants.

3. My Cold Scallop Salad for dinner tonight.

Before adding the scallops, starting at the upper left: chopped jalapeño and celery; the holy Trinity of tomatoes, green bell pepper, and onion; chopped cilantro; and at the top, grapefruit and lime juice

Yum!

4. Placing one foot in front of the other in life.

5. Realizing that sometimes we have to get closer to see simple and natural beauty.

May you see some beauty this weekend!

Five Friday Happy Bringers 3/22/24

My weekly gratitude journal, of sorts.

1. Touching a tree.

But not just any tree. a magnificent Longleaf Pine here in Savannah.

2. Last Friday on our way to Jacksonville, Florida for the weekend, stopping by Amelia Island for lunch at one of our favorite casual lunch haunts along the ocean, Coast at the Ritz Carlton. (We eat there, not stay there.)

My Catch of the Day Sandwich was simply incredible.

3. Grandson Gabriel’s sensational three seconds in a recent basketball game in Atlanta …

I’m afraid he doesn’t get that skill from me. ☹️

4. While we were in Jacksonville last weekend (to get away from Savannah‘s crazy St. Patrick’s Day shenanigans, if you want to know … we live on the parade route), we ventured over to Jacksonville Beach where my family vacationed for well over a decade back in the late 60s and 70s.

We visited the Beaches Museum there. And from their archives, I discovered the motel where my family stayed … the Silver Sea Motel! A mid- to lower-end motel with beds where you could insert a quarter and get a shaky fifteen-minute “massage.”

Such JOYFUL memories.

5. Our three little Travel Buddies who venture with us on all our trips.

We have given each other a variety of neat little stuffed animals over the years (i.e. gay), but these three have become our favorite. They go where we go. This photo was taken in the living room of our Jacksonville Airbnb. We loved the pink azaleas waving at us through the windows.

May this weekend you enJOY some JOYful memories as well.
