Five Friday Happy Bringers 4/15/22

1. An incredible lunch: Chicken pot pie at Pie Society, Ellis Square, Historic District Savannah. With HR and ex-wife Donna.

See the little chicks on the crust?

2. A washing machine. And a dryer! Do you have that incredible pair? If so, I invite you to pause, take a moment and thank God (or whoever/whatever) for such a Glorious Blessing. What would your life be like without them?

Ours is small, stacked, not top of the line, but what a blessing!

3. My husband HR …

… who gets on my LAST nerve sometimes, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

4. Ridiculous jokes I share with grandchildren.

5. Hope.

I HOPE your weekend is peaceful.

1. Breakfast fruit.

No, really, the actual fruit, not HR.

Okay, well maybe Robert too.

2. Our “garden.” We have an apartment in historic district Savannah. No actual yard space, so we do what we can do.

Three Happy Herbs in a pot

3. The ability to make choices.

4. Easter approaching.

5. Appreciating beauty, even aging, post-prime and broken beauty.

Wishing you a beautiful weekend!

1. Yummy breakfast, “Spinach and Bacon Skillet,” with over-easy eggs and blue cheese crumbles, at J. Christopher’s, a favorite and nearby breakfast hangout here near us in Savannah.

2. Bright green.

3. HR’s wedding ring, reflecting light.

4. Air. To breathe.

5. More and more symbols of solidarity with Ukraine in my Savannah neighborhood.

Peace. Peace. Peaceful Weekend.

1. Edamame

2. Seeing Robert, aka HR, in unexpected places, in this case the raised hatch window of our little car.

See him?

3. The blessing of having cold—and hot!—running water. Everybody doesn’t.

4. Yellow … and seeing it all around.

5. Back to having in-person sessions with Therapist “Rubi.” Here’s my little ladder back chair and my we-need-to-talk-about-these-things! journal in his reception area.

The chair has this loud, slightly eerie screech when I sit down and make the slightest move. I have a suspicion it’s some sort of signal that “another one is waiting in the lobby.”

Have a happy and therapeutically healthy weekend!

Five Friday Happy Bringers 3/18/22

1. Traveling to Atlanta for St. Patrick’s Day weekend. Savannah’s Big Parade/Craziness was back this year, so we decided to abandon our parade route apartment and get outta Dodge.

2. Marveling at the gorgeous Atlanta Botanical Garden glory.

I felt bad for this sad and lonely little red tulip. I told her not to be embarrassed because she was different from the daffodils, to get right back up and stand proud. I hope she listened.

3. Robert’s obsession with close ups of him and his camera.

4. Last night’s Atlanta Symphony Orchestra/Chorus presentation of Mozart’s Requiem and Strauss’ Tod and Verklarung (Death and Transfiguration). The music was absolutely lush and lovely.

It was exciting to see and hear ASO’s new conductor/music director Nathalie Stutzmann. She was pretty amazing, “a consummate rock star on the podium,” according to ArtsATL. It is also cool that she is the only woman to head a top-25 American orchestra.

And it was especially moving when, after intermission, the orchestra and chorus performed The State Anthem of Ukraine—and dedicated Requiem to the war torn nation.

5. The ability to make choices, sometimes wise, sometimes unwise.

Happy Last Day of Winter & First Day of Spring Weekend Ahead!

Five Friday Happy Bringers 3/4/22

1. HR (Husband Robert) making “Martha Stewart’s Grand Marnier French Toast.” Oh my goodness!

With sausage patties and fruit.

2. Robert FINALLY getting off his post-Covid/pneumonia supplemental oxygen yesterday, a month after it started! He feels free without all that tubing draping around him.

“Our bodies know how to be well and are always trying to move toward wellness.”

“Thank you, but goodbye.”

3. Sitting in Greene Square, a couple blocks from my house here in Savannah, with beautiful red azaleas and a tiny little red house in the background.

4. The luck/great fortune to just be alive!

5. Fresh Blueberries!

Have a berry good weekend ahead!

1. Walking over to Sorry Charlie’s here in Savannah for a dozen oysters.

2. Speaking of walking, walking through Savannah’s February blooming.

I love dandelions!

3. Still speaking of walking, Robert, recovering from Covid-related pneumonia, now able to join me for short walks (with his portable oxygen).

And intently taking a picture of this “it-may-be-nearly-spring-but-I’m-not” brown October-looking leaf.

4. Pausing to be thankful for always having enough food to eat. Everybody doesn’t.

5. Opening night of Cinderella last night at Savannah Country Day School— with Grandson Daniel playing the Prince.

Have a magical weekend!

1. Green lunch.

Fresh green peas, turnips, Napa cabbage, all from our Forsyth Park Farmers Market, Savannah, last Saturday.

2. Spoiling HR (Husband Robert, you should know that by now!) with a new “foot spa”

(I’m beginning to wonder how much longer he’s going to play this “I’m-so-sick card.”)

3. Grandaughter Isabelle at her FIRST night of gymnastics last night.

4. Grapes.

5. Yellow.

Weekend Joy to You!
