1. Our new salt and pepper grinders!

(It doesn’t take much to make me excitedly happy.)
2. Pretty in purple.

3. The belief that our United States of America is still a democracy, despite the extremists (even seeping into the Supreme Court), who want to declare it — and make it — not so.
4. HR’s (Husband Robert’s) creative culinary expertise. Here’s a recent breakfast bowl …

5. Robert, dogs and me.

May You Have a Happy First Weekend in May!
Beautiful photos. However, I would like to remind you that America is only a democracy (actually, a representative republic) because of the diversity of thought that we have enjoyed up until the present day. The “extremists” are the people trying to squelch free speech, the U.S. Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. The “extremists” are the people making threats against sitting U.S. Supreme Court justices, who have not even issued a ruling on Roe v. Wade. These threats, acts of intimidation, and aggression are unacceptable in a civilized society. Even Ruth Bader-Ginsberg understood, and publicly stated, that Roe v. Wade was largely unconstitutional. To suggest otherwise is to disseminate “disinformation.” The role of the U.S. Supreme Court is to determine the constitutionality of a law – not to make law. If a law is unconstitutional, it is an invalid law. That’s how our legal system works. I don’t know about you, but I value diversity of thought and the ability to debate the issues. This “One Party, One Thought” nonsense is un-American and unacceptable in a free society. Thanks for listening. Have a great day!

Thanks so much, Dawn, for your sincere and thoughtful response. I agree 100% about the importance of diversity of thought. My comment on my five Friday Happy Bringers post was to show my incredible concern and displeasure with the leaked supreme court draft. I have two daughters and multiple granddaughters. I have tried to teach them all that they have agency in their own lives. And anyone who says that they do not have the authority to determine what goes on in their own bodies is an extremist, in my view. And from what I understand about polls in the United States, at least 2/3 of Americans, representing our democracy, agree.

The leak is unacceptable. And I hope they catch the person who did it. I have a daughter, too. Thank you, Neal!

Until 2016, Robert and I could not be married in the United States of America. The supreme court ruled otherwise. I consider that, perhaps only semantically, a law. We were married soon after. It terrifies me about what is happening today in our nation. And I will do everything in my ability to make sure that my daughters and grandchildren are able to determine what happens with their own bodies. I know this is a volatile subject. I appreciate you. And I hope you have a great weekend.
