Five Friday Happy Bringers 9/16/22

1. Having lunch with our grandtwins at their new school for this year.

Ex-wife Donna, Madison, Me, Matthew and HR
And the twins’ mom Emily (a May Howard teacher) standing.
Matthew’s lunch: pizza, strawberry milk and a bowl of corn.
Madison had cleaning duty today.

2. Slightly cooler mornings and evenings here in Savannah (in the 70’s), making our walks much more doable.

3. An alternative definition of “Pro-Life.”

On the bulletin board at our local health food store.

4. Reverent Dusk.

The spires of the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist near us on our evening walk last night.

5. Having Tybee Island (Savannah’s beach) just down the road from us.

I hope your weekend is filled with treasures.

Five Friday Happy Bringers 9/2/22

1. Robert’s beyond delicious Cast Iron Pizza with Fennel and Sausage …

2. Coming across one of my very favorite plants on the planet, a member of the elephant ear family. We found them creekside on a day trip over to nearby Bluffton, South Carolina. When I find them, I always have to touch them. I believe there is a magical and healthy joy there.

3. Waking up each morning to another day of discovery.

4. Brand new grand baby Novah Ti’amo.

5. Being okay with the realization that I have so much time on my hands I can ARRANGE breakfast fruit.

I hope you can arrange a beautiful weekend ahead!

Pre-K is A-Okay!

Today was granddaughter Isabelle‘s first day of pre-K.

Isabelle’s expression … “I’m not so sure about this school thing.“

“Welcome to school, Isabelle. We’re SO glad you’re here.”
Hall-walking with big brother and sister, Matthew and Madison.

A great first day of school! So much to learn. So much to do.

Late Sunday Evening Reflection

I just don’t get the ongoing racism in our world. Even though I am sure as a 70-year-old white man, I have racist assumptions and probably racist actions now and again.

As you know, if you follow my blog, I am married to a black man, HR (Husband Robert), The joy of my life.

Today we were at my grandtwins’ 10th birthday party (more about that in another post).

Three -year-old granddaughter Isabelle was all about Robert holding her throughout the party. Not me. Robert. He was more fun.

Isabelle kept wanting to have her foot pictured. And of course Robert obliged.

If only we all had the intelligence and the footprint of three–year-olds.

Throwback Thursday: “Get In or Get Out!”

So last night I was scrolling though my 25,557 photos (seriously?!) in the “Recents” section of my iPhone. (Recent?!)

And l came across a short series of silly pictures.

It all started when I was grandtwin-sitting Matthew and Madison. (Circa 2013. They were about one at the time.)

Matthew
Madison

They seemed a little bored. Staring out the window, obviously looking for greener pastures.

“Bless you, my sissy. Boredom’s trap will not snare us forever.”

I really knew something had gone awry when Matthew started chewing on my shoe strings.

So I came up with a solution to the babysitting challenge. And I’m sure you probably do this too: when all else fails, sit the little ones in containers. Yes? I thought so.

Matthew and an aluminum tub

See? Right?

Madison. “I’m not so sure.”

I decided that I would join the fun … until I realized i couldn’t.

Darn

Matthew: “Let’s just look out that window again.”

The twins today and their end-of-the-year school awards ceremony …

Youngest granddaughter Isabelle’s 4th bday party today, featuring Mirabelle from Encanto.

Isabelle being presented with a plaque declaring her an honorary candle protector. (Have you seen the movie?)

Isabelle, her mom, HR and me

On Isabelle’s 4th (and many more to follow):

“May she be happy. May she be healthy. May she be safe. May she be at peace and live her live with ease.”

Happy Birthday, Isabelle!
