Five Friday Happy Bringers 10/18/24

My weekly gratitude journal, of sorts.

1. Enjoying the cooler fall weather here in Savannah.

2. Speaking of cooler weather, HR driving us over to Tybee Island yesterday evening to see/experience the beautiful Hunter Moon rising “from” the Atlantic ocean.

Get ready. Here she comes!

3. After the Moon Spectacular, we headed to the very ocean-hip Sea Wolf Tybee bar and restaurant …

… for their gourmet hot dogs. I stayed seawater simple with their Classic dog …

While Robert (as usual) got all fancy with their Chicago dog.

For some reason, I ALWAYS have to look into the restrooms at quirky restaurants. Why? Their bathrooms often mirror the quirkiness of the rest of the place.

Sea Wolf certainly came through. When you close the bathroom door, there is a hot dog costume hanging there. (I wondered if anyone ever tried it on and sashayed back to their table.)

I didn’t look too closely at the bloody looking costume to hot dog’s right.

And look what we found out on the patio.

A hot dog wreath, of course.

And hats for witches.

Or warlocks.

OK, I really need to stop this Frankfurter Foolishness.

4. Robert’s monochromal kitty Benny.

5. And grandson Daniel in final rehearsals as young Shakespeare in the upcoming play Shakespeare in Love.

Hope you have a hotdog of a weekend ahead!

“Robert and … #43”

A blog category of pics I’ve taken of HR (Hubby Robert) and … well, just about anything.

So because of Hurricane Helene and NO POWER, Robert and I had to get outta Dodge (well, Savannah). So we hightailed it over to Columbus, Georgia, where younger daughter Emily lives.

Before going over to visit (and bother) Emily, we drove to downtown Columbus and the Chattahoochee River to see what we heard was “a tumultuous scene.” This “scene” was caused by the city having to open the floodgates to relieve the pressure, so as to avert further dangerous flooding in the Columbus area.

“Open the floodgates?” Perhaps you didn’t know Columbus had a dam. (Yes I said the word … “dam”— alternate spelling, “damn.”)

OK, enough of this silly rigamarole.

Here’s a short film, entitled “The Two R’s – the Damn River and Robert” …

As you can probably tell, Robert had no idea I was producing this award-winning film.

But there he is, in a rather proud posture.

Five Friday Happy Bringers 8/30/24

My weekly gratitude journal, of sorts.

1. Daughter Amy and son-in-law Scott hamming it up by the river near their house.

2. HR suggesting we drive over to nearby Tybee Island for an evening walk on the beach.

And look! Another riveting film in my long-running canon of riveting films, this one starring the Atlantic Ocean, the Tybee Pier and HR.

3. The ability to WALK. What a blessing! I encourage you, wherever you are and if possible, to stand up and walk around a bit. What a miracle!

4. Sunlight on grass.

Washington Square, a one-minute walk from our apartment

5. My fellow.

May you have an Ocean of Weekend Fun ahead.

Five Friday Happy Bringers 8/23/24

My weekly gratitude journal, of sorts.

  1. Robert and I had a lovely hour perusing a new exhibit, “A Measure of Time,” at our local Savannah Jepson Center for the Arts.

Gloriously colorful, geometric shapes everywhere!

HR trying (unsuccessfully) to blend in.

2. The ongoing belief that our bodies know how to be well and are always trying to move toward wellness.

3. Colorful carrots!

I made a delicious new dish, Maple Roasted Rainbow Carrots with Fennel Seeds, with some of them.

4. Our “Travel Buddies.” Have I told you about them? Three silly little stuffed animals HR and I have given each other over the years. But they travel with us EVERYWHERE we go.

I’ll do a blog post about some of their adventures soon.

5. Friday!

Joyful weekend ahead for you!

Monday Moaning or Monday Marveling? 8/19/24 “BP!”

I’m MARVELING this morning. Let me explain.

So HR has NEVER had a WARM (important adjective) HOMEMADE (second important adjective) BANANA PUDDING!

I felt so sorry for Robert’s culinarily sad deprivation that I got straight to work.

Of course he had to put his two cents in, asking for (demanding) Chessmen Butter cookies in addition to classic vanilla wafers …

… which made me a little mad, but good husband that I am, I plowed ahead.

Before the oven …

(Thanks, I thought it was pretty too.)

And now for the meringue …

For some inexplicable reason, HR decided to video me spreading the meringue …

Wasn’t that riveting?

Now wait with me for 15 minutes till the peaks brown.

Ta Da!

MARVELous!

My Saturday Evening Post: 3/23/24 “Does Food?”

Does food (or life) get any better than this?!

So last weekend, Robert and I ventured down to Jacksonville, Florida to get away from the St. Patrick’s Day craziness here in Savannah. (We live on the parade route.)

One of our weekend meals found us in the Mayport area of Jacksonville, just off the Atlantic Ocean. and at one of our very favorite seafood restaurants, Safe Harbor.

I got the blackened shrimp and haddock. Oh my goodness!

Robert got something or other, I can’t remember what, I was too busy with my own seafood extravaganza.

But here he is …

The Joy of Food!
