Oh Look!

Meandering through Marshall’s, I made the most AMAZING discovery:

I’m no longer going to age or get old!

Really! Look!

I wish I had known this is all it took earlier!

Monday Moaning or Monday Marveling? 11/10/25

I’m marveling this Monday morn, remembering two recent preposterously delicious meals Robert and I shared.

First, Robert absolutely outdid himself the other night at supper with his Fisherman’s Pie.

Starring cod, shrimp, smoked salmon snd crab leg meat.

With a supporting cast of leeks, spinach and heavy cream. Topped off with succulent mashed potatoes.

Somewhat similar to a seafood chowder, with a thicker consistency.

Oh my GOODNESS.

The recipe HR used, in case you’re interested:

Trying not to be outdone, I put together (in my mother‘s old cast iron skillet, which actually belonged to her mother) another supper of Bone-In Pork Chops with Honey-crisp Apples and Spiced Cider.

It tasted like autumn!

And a link to my recipe:

P.S. I love using the word “supper” instead of “dinner.” It’s nostalgic. It’s home.

Five Friday Happy Bringers 11/7/25

My weekly gratitude journal, of sorts.

1. Realizing last Saturday night that I can, as Cher so desperately wished, turn back time.

Goodbye, daylight savings time.

2. Embracing (well not literally) the Joy of Candles! Especially autumnal pumpkin spice-smelling candles.

(My heart was a bit broken recently when I discovered that pumpkin spice really has nothing to do with actual pumpkins. It’s called “pumpkin spice,” of course, because those spices are frequently found in pumpkin pie. Wouldn’t you think someone my age would know that?)

3. The ability to smell. (Well, most of the time.)

4. Our little potted Japanese Maple (aka JM), stubbornly refusing to admit that it is now FALL.

Here’s our little fellow about this time last year …

I haven’t shown the photo to JM. I don’t want to rush him and be one of those parents who cause their kids to develop “hurried child syndrome.”

5. And finally, this is a follow-up to my post the other day about finding those little Jesus figurines (!) on the gas pump at Kroger. Remember?

Well, yesterday HR and I went to Publix for our weekly It’s-Wednesday’s-buy-one-get-one-free shopping spree.

We were minding our own business, when lo and behold, I looked down at the BOGO queso and saw …

Wait. Look closer.

See Him?!

Yet another Little Jesus! Seriously!

I made Robert snap a photo for documentation (quickly, because people were beginning to stare.)

Somebody must SERIOUSLY be on a mission here in Savannah.

And may you complete a Serious Mission to find some Autumn Happiness this weekend.

Someone Felt I …

Pulling up to the gas pump at Kroger this morning, I got out of the car …

Walked closer to the pump …

Closer still …

A tad closer …

And I saw Him/Them …

Someone felt I needed … a little Jesus.

I agreed. So I filled up my tank — and walked away with Him.

A Saintly Sunday

What a terrific Day of the Dead 2025 Robert and I have experienced!

It all began with breakfast as we feasted on delicious Pan de Muerto (Bread of the Dead) we had ordered the day before from local Mexican bakery/restaurant La Canasta Panaderia.

What IS Pan de Muerto? you may be asking. Here’s what Google told me:

Yum!

Then we went to our church, Asbury Memorial hrre in Savannah, for our annual All Saints Sunday service, where we remember the church members and other dear folks who have passed on during the past year.

At the front of the church, there was a large ofrenda (altar), and at one point, the pastor invited folks to come forward with photos or mementos of their loved ones.

I brought a little marble Last Supper sculpture I bought for my parents when daughter Amy and I were in Italy … 25 years ago. It sat on their mantle for eons until they passed away.

Here it is in the lower left, below photos of other folks

This year Robert remembered his kitty cat Boopers.

Then tonight HR and I had our Dia de los Muertos supper, consisting of several of our deceased parents’ favorite foods: Maryland crab cakes, homemade vegetable soup and cornbread.

A wonderful and joyful heartfelt day of remembrance.

Oh, let’s not forget the special treats our folks loved.

Pork rinds (I know, not healthy, but my dad lived to almost 97), orange slices, black and white cookies
