Thursday Doors: “Not the Main Door” 4/23/26

On a recent spring morning walk here in Savannah, my eye kept going to doors that were not the main door to a house or dwelling.

Like this one, which sort of looks like a garage door, but on closer inspection (i.e. spying through the cracks), I saw that this rooster door led to a small courtyard.

Can you see how the door opens to the left of #5?

A bit farther down the alley where I was walking, I came upon this vine-topped garage door.

And I love chancing upon iron gates, which are often doors leading to beauty.

Jasmine is sprouting up all over Savannah.

Look at the morning light spilling through the black iron!

And looking through another gate, spring charm exploded.

I hope you walk through some doors into beauty on this Thursday.

Five Friday Happy Bringers 3/28/25

My weekly gratitude journal, of sorts.

1. Walking to one of my favorite reading spots a couple of blocks from us here in Historic District Savannah on the bluff overlooking the Savannah River.

2. Being able to walk!

3. Friendly farm animals yesterday at Hunter Cattle Company in Brooklet GA, where we bought beautiful grass-fed ribeye steak.

4. More of Savannah’s Spring Beauty.

5. Looking for the Tree Spirits at various spots around Saint Simon’s Island (Georgia).

(I’m working on a post about the dozen or so “spirits” we found recently.)

Monday Moaning or Monday Marveling? 5/20/24 “Hello Hy”

MARVELING!

The incredibly aromatic blossoms of Jasmine are beginning to say their goodbyes here in historic district Savannah.

I will miss them sorely, although their stalwart greenery will stay to keep guard.

Awakening me from my sadness and reminding me that all is not forlorn, along comes Hydrangea, seemingly popping up everywhere I walk, especially this cool Monday morning.
