Countdown to Christmas: “Images of Peace” 12/3/22

For this blog category, “Countdown to Christmas: Images of Peace,” each day between December 1 and 25, I share some of our photography that invites rest, peace, tranquility and love.

1922 — Anita — 2022

Today our church, Asbury Memorial here in Savannah, celebrated the life of our oldest member Anita Clay, who passed away this week at the age of 100.

Anita led an amazing life. One tiny snippet: She was a founding member of the local quirky, funky Crabettes band.

We will miss you, our Anita.

May you beautifully Rest in Peace.

Oh, and the Crabettes played at the luncheon following Anita’s joyous memorial service.

Here’s a link to Anita’s full obituary …

Strong Spines

Over the valley and through the woods, gathering collards we go. 🎶

Walking in Habersham Village toward our favorite little bar and grill in Savannah, Robert and I saw this …

A mountain of beautiful pre-Thanksgiving collards! Being carefully pulled into our favorite little neighborhood grocer, The Red and White.

The sight brought a sudden jolt of JOY into my heart.

I love collards! They are deliciously beautiful. And they exude such leafy and cruciferous strength.

Collards greens have strong spines!

Five Friday Happy Bringers 11/18/22

My weekly list of a few “joy inciters” in my life. A Friday Gratitude Journal, of sorts.

1. The beautiful bottlebrush plant we saw recently on a walk here in Savannah.

What a cool and fitting name! And it’s SO friendly. It colorfully whispered in my ear, “You know, Neal, Christmas is coming! Joy to the world!”

2. Pine. Oh, the glorious appearance and aroma of pine!

3. Comfortable shoes.

4. Always having enough food to eat. (I so often take that blessing for granted.)

Robert’s Baked Fall Zucchette Butternut Squash Pasta (with sausage)

5. The beach.

Tybee Island, near us.

May Peace shine on you this weekend before Thanksgiving.

Five Friday Happy Bringers 11/11/22

1. More Savannah fall sidewalk beauty to process.

2. Speaking of beauty, a beautiful little turtle I filmed (10 seconds, watch it!) at the education center at Sapelo Island this week. We really hit it off.

Let’s call her Autumn!

3. Unique walkways.

Also on Sapelo Island. We did a bunch of Sapelo-ing.

4. Today. Simply having TODAY. What a reason to rejoice!

5. Spanish moss and Robert.

I love them both.

May you have So Much to love this weekend!

Root Returning

I loved this small excerpt of a lovely Essene meditation posted by Kelly Curtis on the beautifully inspirational blog, Kelly’s Quest.

“Softness fills my days
In this season of autumn light.
Gentle joy of life returning
To know its roots again.”

As we perhaps slow down a bit this autumn, may we mindfully embrace the quiet, deep and abiding joyful health of our roots.

Contemplative Robert and the foggy Savannah River near us.

Tale as Old as Time

As you might have seen, Angela Lansbury passed away today at age 96.

My Great Friend and Former-Wife Donna and I really loved her. We used to watch her every Sunday night in “Murder She Wrote.”

And, of course, she was the voice of Mrs. Potts in “Beauty and the Beast.”

Grandson Daniel played the part of Chip in the Savannah Children Theatre’s production of “Beauty and the Beast” a few years back.

And here is Angela in the 25th anniversary of Disney’s production of “Beauty and the Beast.”

Joy. Joy.
