Yesterday when Robert and I ventured over to the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge, we stopped by the Visitor Center for trail maps and took a gander inside the little nature-oriented gift shop. We are nerdy enough to always be on the lookout for new magnets and ornaments for our travel tree for Christmas.
I fell IN LOVE with a series of very cool T-shirts about area animals and what we can learn from them. So I decided to feature one on each T-shirt Tuesday for the next seven weeks.
First the Tremendous Turtle …
I love the “Be well-rounded” wisdom. The older I get, the rounder I seem to be.
A friendly turtle HR and I encountered at Okefenokee Swamp Park,
Let’s try to follow at least some of the wise turtle’s advice.
I have been feeling a bit queasy and under the weather today because of some meds I’m having to take for a heel spur, of all things.
Sort of a gray day.
And just take a gander at the definitions of “spur.”
Excuse me, but this spur ain’t urging this horse forward! There’s zilch prompting or encouraging going on here.
So whenever I’m feeling a little sickly, especially stomach wise, I do what Mama did. I take out a can of Campbell’s Chicken Noodle Soup …
… and pull out a sleeve of “soda crackers” and let the healing begin.
[Sidebar: I know that both the soup and the crackers are high in sodium, which I usually try to avoid, but not when I’m sick. At the sickly stage, I’m ready to ingest salt by the spoonfulls, or is it “spoonsfull”?]
And for some reason, maybe nostalgia, maybe the power of comfort food, maybe the connection with Mama, the soup almost always plays its role in healing manifestation.
I’m Thankful to live in Savannah’s National Historic Landmark District, where daily walks never fail to reveal yet another source of marvel-worthy beauty.
As I’ve said before, HR and I live off Washington Square, the northeastern most of our 22 extant squares. It’s the tiny green one in the upper righthand corner on the map below. Across from the Savannah River.
The historic district is a walker’s dream, with surprises hidden down tiny lanes and in secret gardens.
Here a few sightings from our midday walk.

And a bit of gratitude and love to Jimmy Carter …
Thankful & Peaceful Saturday to you all.
P.S. I even thought some “weeds” were pretty, perched proudly at the curb, their dynamic green exuding roadside royalty.
1. My comforting twin meatloafs (meatloaves?) this week. One to eat, one to freeze.
Yum
2. Taste buds!
3. Yellow.
4. Grandson Daniel as “Marius” and the talented cast of Les Mis here in Savannah.
Getting post-performance commentary and critique from the play’s director and the choreographer. And very excited about getting post-performance candy from first grade teacher. With mom Amy and with HR and me.
5. The TRUTH of this beautiful quote from Les Mis …
