Five Friday Happy Bringers 11/4/22

1. HR and I having a low-key Day of the Dead (Dia De Los Muertos) dinner on Nov. 2 in honor of our parents.

My parents absolutely loved my homemade chili, which I made for them in the last several decades of their lives when I would visit.

2. Our little beautiful, pink flower, (I’m not sure what it is), just outside our door, which just keeps blooming, even now into November.

3. The ability to talk, to express, to communicate.

4. Grandchildren trick-or-treating …

5. Wreathing Autumn in Savannah.

May your weekend be wreathed in Joy!

Joyful Love

3. The front door of our old 1870’s home.

My Saturday Evening Post: 10/8/22 “Hello! from Atlanta Pride”

So Robert and I are in Atlanta this weekend for Pride. You may (or may not) know that the traditional month for Pride celebrations is June. But not in the deep South. It’s too hot! And some of our Pride might melt. October works better.

We’re staying at a very cool Airbnb near Piedmont Park where the festival is held.

We get our steps in climbing up to our suite …

“Come on up, Neal!”

And we have our very own little morning coffee spot …

Like-minded folks here.

Georgia races

Today, Saturday, is the Pride festival. (Tomorrow is the parade.)

Such loving, accepting and inclusive fun.

HR, proudly, trying to look cool and hip.

HAPPY OCTOBER PRIDE, Y’ALL!

1. My glasses.

Oh my goodness, WHAT would I do without them?!

2. The Atlanta Braves winning the National League East … again.

3. Lunch with youngest granddaughter Isabelle for Pre-K lunch (at 10:45 a.m.!).

Isabelle hugging Nana and holding a tiny piece of broccoli.

4. Colorful Fall

Corner of our dining table

5. The simple joy of being alive.

Side note: The dead-looking, brownish clumps you see to the right and underneath the brilliant green …

They are not dead at all. They are Resurrection Ferns. And as soon as the next rain comes, they will burst into more obvious life and challenge the green vine’s brilliance.

May we all burst into More Obvious Life this weekend!

1. Gold Bond Powder.

(Okay, give me a break, I’m 70.)

2. The last glimpses of summer.

A few lone gorgeous azalea blossoms. In September!

3. Pride.

HR and I are heading to Atlanta Pride next weekend. Of course, I’ll give you a report. Did you even need to ask?

4. Fall.

5. Thankfully, Savannah avoiding the brunt of Ian’s wrath.

But now we have our preparedness kit for this year’s hurricane season.

I hope you are prepared for a safe and joyful weekend ahead.

1. Having lunch with our grandtwins at their new school for this year.

Ex-wife Donna, Madison, Me, Matthew and HR
And the twins’ mom Emily (a May Howard teacher) standing.
Matthew’s lunch: pizza, strawberry milk and a bowl of corn.
Madison had cleaning duty today.

2. Slightly cooler mornings and evenings here in Savannah (in the 70’s), making our walks much more doable.

3. An alternative definition of “Pro-Life.”

On the bulletin board at our local health food store.

4. Reverent Dusk.

The spires of the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist near us on our evening walk last night.

5. Having Tybee Island (Savannah’s beach) just down the road from us.

I hope your weekend is filled with treasures.

1. Last night, making my Roasted Tomato Basil Soup (with fresh local tomatoes).

Beyond delicious, with Robert’s Grilled Cheese Sandwiches.

2. Being grateful for a car, my little vehicle which transports HR and me from one point to another.

I so often take my car for granted. Then driving through Savannah, I’ll look at the bus stops and see so many people who do not have cars.

3. My cute photographer husband.

Hilton head Island, South Carolina

Robert’s photography blog: Robert’sSnapSpot

4. Mr. Happy.

5. My chair in our study.

It’s where I sit just to sit. Or meditate. Or read. Or talk with Robert. Or argue with Robert.

May you sit in joy this weekend.

1. Robert’s beyond delicious Cast Iron Pizza with Fennel and Sausage …

2. Coming across one of my very favorite plants on the planet, a member of the elephant ear family. We found them creekside on a day trip over to nearby Bluffton, South Carolina. When I find them, I always have to touch them. I believe there is a magical and healthy joy there.

3. Waking up each morning to another day of discovery.

4. Brand new grand baby Novah Ti’amo.

5. Being okay with the realization that I have so much time on my hands I can ARRANGE breakfast fruit.

I hope you can arrange a beautiful weekend ahead!
